Eco Max Kitchen Scrubber is a handmade natural alternative to nylon scourers, produced from unbleached coconut fibre which is a natural anti-bacterial so it won’t become smelly or mouldy.
Eco Max Brushes are Vegan, Fair Trade and biodegradable. Fat won’t congeal to the fibre and the bristles make it easy to clean kitchen utensils and appliances. It cleans without scratching enamelware and timber breadboards, is dishwasher safe, long-lasting and does not contain micro-plastics that pollute our waterways and enter our food chains.
Care of your brush: Rinse and place in your dish rack to dry. Dishwasher safe. Compost at the end of their life.
Our Eco Max Brushes are handmade in Sri Lanka by a small family run business that prides its self on creating beautiful, sustainable brushes while providing employment and training for women. Handed down from father to daughter, Liza now runs the factory in Wattala, which trains and employs women from a slum close to the new express way. This training and work allows the women to earn a living wage and a bonus scheme increases their weekly pay. Their children are also encouraged to continue their studies and pursue further education. Unfortunately, the slum is prone to flooding and during the wet season, the women and their family are often forced to leave their home and move into the factory. There has been ongoing negotiation with the government about relocating these families to flood free land close by and it is hoped that this will occur this year. The company has put aside extra finances to help with the women’s relocation which will allow, with the amount provided by the government, for them to rebuild their homes.
Rather than retire, Liza’s father is now training women to make brushes in Kurunegala, an area where employment opportunities are limited. He hopes to set up a training centre in Jaffna in the near future. Eco Max Brushes use only natural vegetable fibres, are biodegradable and sustainable. The brushes are registered with The Vegan Society and we are working closely with the women to develop new brushes using new fibres.
