​This unique product links you to the heart of Africa. It is made of banana leaf, raffia or water reeds and has been individually hand-woven using a traditional weaving technique. You may find some variations which add to the beauty and unique qualities of this item.

Made by the Kind Mother's Project in Uganda. Many millions of people live in extreme poverty in Africa struggling to survive each day. By selling their handicrafts these mothers are able to care for their families and send their children to school. 

We source these beautiful pieces through Afribeads, a social enterprise creating a sustainable income for artisans who haven't traditionally had access to the global marketplace.

Each one of these beautifully coloured necklaces has been hand made with love and care. Women artisans in Uganda hand make each of the beads out of recycled magazine papers. This means that no two beads are the same! To make the beads the they take a triangle piece of paper, which is rolled, glued and varnished with an environmentally friendly sealant. The finished beads are then arranged between tiny glass beads and created into unique, gorgeous, recycled jewellery. The beads are water resistant and durable in normal wear.

As each necklace is handmade there are some variations to length and colour. Each necklace is approximately 120cm long and can be wrapped around up to three times. 

When you purchase one of these products you will receive a beautiful story of how the products are made, making it an ideal gift.

Constructed and sewn to the highest standards by fair trade tailors in India with quality inclusion such as YKK Zips, the world's best. Every piece of hide has been carefully chosen, cut, lined up and sewn together by a small team working under fair trade conditions.
