Plastic Free Homes

I wanted to share a little inspiration that I've had today. Sometimes I find myself focusing on the negatives in life but today I am feeling very inspired by the wonderful people pushing the eco friendly and fair trade movement ahead.  It's heartening to see the shift in the community and people banding together to make lifestyle changes.

It has never been easier to reduce your carbon footprint. There are now so many great organisations and blogs like 1 Million Women and Eco Warrior Princess. You can now get hints and tips emailed directly to you, programs that hold you accountable to your goals, and so much more. The world is changing!

This has led me to start watching the amount of plastic that I use in my home for everyday chores. While I would love to avoid doing the cleaning and say it is to reduce plastic... this isn't an option.  Instead I am now swapping out the plastic for better alternatives as things need replacing.

I've picked a few everyday house hold items and we now have fair trade and eco friendly alternatives!!!

Make the switch from
Plastic Bags to  String bags handmade from coconut fibre

The easiest swap by far is to change from plastic bags to reusable non plastic alternatives. It just takes a little planning to make sure you have access to plastic alternatives.

We now have these  Araliya String Bags in stock which are great for shopping and also storing produce such as potatoes and onions. They have been very popular and we have already sold out of 2 styles. We still have limited stock of the Saffron and Coconut colour options.

Not only are these bags eco friendly they are also fair trade. Hand made in Sri Lanka.

Make the switch from
Loofah to  Eco Max Princess Body Brush

All Eco Max Brushes are registered with The Vegan Society, are fair trade and ethically handmade in Sri Lanka using 100% natural vegetable fibres. Eco Max Body Brushes are a plastic free alternative for natural body care, good for you and the planet.

The brushes are used for dry body brushing. This is a completely natural way to gently exfoliate, while inceasing circulation and stimulating the lymphatic system to help detoxification.  As the dry body brushes don't contain plastic you won't be polluting the water ways with microplastics.

We now have two options available, the  Eco Max Princess Body Brush and the Eco Max Jute Face Brush.

Plastic Toilet Brush to  Coconut Fibre Toilet Brush

Have you ever considered how much plastic a toilet brush uses? Until recently I hadn't either. There is the plastic packaging, the plastic brush and container plus everytime its used microplastics are washed into our water ways.

The Eco Max Toilet Brush is a great natural alternative. Handmade from unbleached coconut fibre, which is naturally anti-bacterial, so it will not become smelly or mouldy, making it an ideal natural fibre for toilets.

Eco Max Brushes are Fair Trade, Vegan and biodegradable. The fibre will not flatten or discolour like a nylon brush. The curved shape allows the brush to easily clean under the lip and the S bend. They are completely chemical free and will not add micro plastics to our waterways and food chain.

Make the switch from
Plastic Dish Brush to Sisal Fibre Non Stick Pan Brush

Our new Eco Max Nonstick Pan Brush has a sustainable alstonia timber handle with soft natural, unbleached sisal fibres, which come from the leaves of a cactus. Natural fibres have rounded ends and won't scratch non-stick pans or delicate items. Replace the plastics in the kitchen with natural fibres that do not add micro-plastics to our waterways and food chain.
